How IPL works

How it works

Promoting skin renewal

Whereas laser uses targeted action to remove hair, IPL uses a light-source and an electrical current to promote the regeneration of cells and the production of collagen and other elastic substances in the deep layers of the skin to improve the texture and uniformity of the skin's appearance.

Expectations

Discomfort

During the procedure and shortly after, you might experience an itching sensation which degree will vary according my hair density, the area's sensitivity, and treatment head used but that does not last long. A mild “sun-burn” sensation may follow for typically up to one hour and will be reduced with application of cooling and soothing creams.

Perifollicular erythema/edema

Severity and duration of the rash depend on the intensity of the treatment and the sensitivity of the area to be treated. These phenomena may be reduced with application of cooling and/or inflammatory creams.

Micro-crusting over some areas with very dense and coarse hair

May take 5 to 10 days to flake off and it is important not to manipulate or pick which may otherwise lead to scarring.

Light sensitive

May rarely occur and may last several days

Burning/Pigmentation changes

Although IPL is used to treat certain skin pigmentation problems, in rare cases where burning occurs, changes in the pigmentation of the skin may occur.
